Abstract

Filamentous fungi have been investigated to produce lignocellulose-degrading enzymes by Solid State Fermentation (SSF) for different biotechnological purposes. However, the application of fungal consortia in this process has been little evaluated. In this study, fungal species (Aspergillus niger SCBM1 – Ni, Aspergillus fumigatus SCBM6 – Fu, Trametes versicolor 561 – Tr, Ganoderma lucidum 601 – Ga and Pleurotus ostreatus PL06 – Pl) were cultivated isolated and in consortia for the biosynthesis of lignocellulose-degrading enzymes, with sugarcane bagasse and wheat bran as substrates. Among the enzymatic cocktails produced, Ni extract exhibited the highest production for cellulases and hemicellulases. For filter paper cellulase (FPase), Tr cocktail was the one that stood out (9.45 U/g). Among the extracts produced by consortia, Ni+Tr+Pl cocktail presented the maximum production of β-glucosidase (171.09 U/g), β-xylosidase (139.99 U/g) and manganese peroxidase (3.29 U/g). For FPase, Ni+Fu+Ga cocktail demonstrated the highest production (10.46 U/g). Maximum xylanase biosynthesis (2582.38 U/g) was obtained in Ni+Fu+Pl extract. For laccase, the maximum biossynthesis (25.27 U/g) was obtained in Tr+Ga+Pl extract. The high enzymatic activity present in these cocktails demonstrated that the use of microbial consortia can be a promising alternative to obtain cocktails with high synergism.
