PROSPECT FOR METAL-CONTAMINATED WASTEWATER TREATMENT BY MICROALGAE
The effluents contamination by heavy metals has become a global problem due to its high toxicity and bioaccumulation in the human body. The biosorption of these metals by microalgae is an area that has been studied in recent years. The advantages of working with these microorganisms include the diversity of aquatic environments, high growth rate and the possibility of using biomass as a raw material in the production of biofuels. In this work, the removal capacity of iron, zinc and chromium metals were evaluated using the microalgae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. Past ten days, the biomass increased and the metal removal were observed in all conditions.
