Ethanol and citric acid co-production by Trichoderma reesei and Saccharomyces cerevisiae from sugarcane bagasse and vinasse
Solid-state cultivation (SSC) is defined as microbial growth on solid supports in the near absence of free-water conditions. In these processes, besides the products, the release of glucose occurs in the culture medium, and its use could lead to the generation of other biotechnological compounds. Thus, the aim of this research was to evaluate the co-production of citric acid by SSC’s Trichoderma reesei from sugarcane bagasse with vinasse as impregnant soluction and ethanol by Saccharomyces cerevisiae from SSC extract. The results evidenced the production of citric acid by T. reesei and glucose release, which was converted by yeasts with low yield due to the presence of inhibitory compounds formed due to the use of vinasse.
