Resumo

Introduction: Nursing students are exposed to situations of non-university stress and the ways to confront them can bring important repercussions for their biopsychosocial well-being. Therefore, there is a need of more researches about the subject so that the literature can be enriched. Considering the relevance of the theme and the attention to the physical and mental health of the future nurse. General objective: To analyze the results of stress symptomatology in Nursing students of a public university. Method: An exploratory, descriptive study, with a quantitative-qualitative approach was carried out with 197 students from the Nursing course of the Federal University of Maranhão from the 1st to the 10th period, in the months of May and June of 2018. Two instruments were used to data collect which include the sociodemographic data and the adaptation of Lipp’s adult inventory of Stress Symptom. The quantitative data were ordered in the Excel program with the help of the Epi Info program, version 7.2.2.6. The qualitative data were transcribed for the WPS office 2016 program and submitted to content analysis, according to Bardin. Study approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Maranhão under the number 2,249,380. Results: The most frequent stress symptoms were wear sensation 72.09%, muscle tension 65.49%, excessive fatigue 62.44% and doubts about yourself 58.88%, symptoms that are related to the exhaustive routine of the graduation. Based on the analysis of the discourses, six categories were evidenced by the symptomatology: poor performance in work, seminars and academic evaluations, the teacher-student relationship, university adaptation, disapproval, hospital practices and the Completion of course work. Conclusions: The study evidenced the symptoms related to stress in students of the Nursing course and the potential of the commitment in the academic activities when the individual is under stress situations.
