The goal of this research is to analyze the environmental vulnerability of the Municipality of Formosa (GO), between the years of 1999 and 2014, and, for the most susceptibility area, generate a prospective land use map using geoprocessing and Cellular Automata (CA). For this purpose, digital maps of pedology, roads and drainage networks, and terrain declivity map (obtained from the digital elevation model SRTM/NASA) were used, in addition to images captured by the Landsat 5 and 8 satellites. The methodology applied consisted of three steps: a) first, land use maps of the years 1999 and 2014 were created using geoprocessing algorithms available in the Spring and ArcGIS/Erdas software; b) second, environmental vulnerability maps were generated using both Analytic Hierarchy Process and fuzzy logic; and finally, c) third, a land use map for the year 2019 was generated for the most anthropized and vulnerable area using the software Dinamica EGO/UFMG, which employs CA. The maps showed a considerable urban growth towards the northwest and southeast directions, which is of great concern because of the proximity to the main bodywater of the Municipality, the Lagoa Feia. These results subsidize public policies for basic sanitation management, urban and rural planning, sanitation, and mitigation measures to reduce environmental impacts of uncontrolled anthropic growth.
