Resumo

This study explores the application of multiband imaging techniques for cultural heritage documentation, exemplified by a case study from the CIPA Summer School 2024 held in Rhodes, Greece. The primary objective was to use multiband analysis to document and analyze the interior of Saint Irene Chrysovalanto Church. The methodology involved capturing images across different spectral ranges with filters, processing these images to correct geometric distortions, enhance radiometric information and performing Principal Components Analysis (PCA) to extract valuable insights from the hybrid images. The results revealed hidden details such as moisture damage and past restoration efforts, demonstrating the potential of non-destructive multiband imaging for enriching cultural heritage documentation. Despite challenges with UV spectral imaging and measurement difficulties, the study highlights the effectiveness of this approach in providing a deeper understanding of historical structures and their preservation needs.
