Resumo

Polarimetric SAR pattern throughout grapevine development stages remains largely unknown. This study aims to assess the polarimetric time series over a full productive cycle of a smallholder grapevine in Guanambi, Bahia, Brazil. Sentinel-1 data were acquired, along with field observations from major phenological stages (Shoot/Inflorescence, Flowering, Berry Formation, and Berry Ripening) and grapevine management practices. The combination of VV, VH, Alpha, Entropy, and mRVI reveals the complex interaction between radar signals and vineyard phenology. The trends observed in these variables align with expected growth patterns, such as canopy development and senescence, highlighting the value of SAR data for monitoring vineyard phenological stages. The variables assessed were sensible to alterations in vegetation density or moisture content as well as the complexity of the canopy and the rainfall and the soil tilling effects.
