The OBT Facebook page (www.facebook.com/inpe.observacaodaterra) was created to disseminate information relevant to the area of remote sensing for general public. In the analysis of about six months, there were about 650 followers with 185 publications and maximum “involvement rate” (Facebook metric) of 40%, but only in less 5% of the publications. This article tries to demonstrate importance in production of knowledge and pertinence of the social media in the dissemination of information of the area of remote sensing. Concluding: it is not amount of publications, but its quality promotes greater interaction of the reader with content producing knowledge.
