The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, IBGE, is responsible for the decennial census in Brazil and, since 2000, disseminates consolidated data for the census sectors. The geometric stability of the census sectors is compromised by the census production method that is guided by operational, administrative and political factors, especially in urban areas. The aim of this paper is to detect the geometric changes of the urban sectors using decennial census data of Salvador city. These changes may provide support for urban planning as public health and education. The methodology is based on differences in dimensions and geometry between sectors.
