Scaling Artists in Visual Effects Pipelines Using the GRASP Meta-heuristics

Abstract

This work addresses the problem of assigning artists to tasks in the context of visual effects in audiovisual productions, modeled as a scaling problem with precedence and capacity constraints. The objective is to optimize the distribution of tasks among artists with different specializations, respecting the dependencies of the production pipeline and seeking to improve the efficiency of the process. To solve the problem, a heuristic approach based on the GRASP (Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedures) method is proposed, combined with a local search phase to refine the solutions. The evaluation function considers criteria such as unallocated tasks and violation of the artists' capacity. The results indicate that the approach is capable of generating viable and good quality solutions in reduced computational time.
