The Pre-Scientific Initiation project aims to develop in students, still attending high school, skills to solve some Optimization Problems, with Linear Programming (PL) models and their solving techniques. Being carried out with students from the Technical Courses Integrated to High School at the Fluminense Federal Institute Campos Guarus campus, the actions considered stimulated their scientific training and contributed to a better communication between research and basic education. The project promotes the articulation between Calculus and Linear Algebra content with Mathematics knowledge consolidated in High School, such as functions, matrices and systems of linear equations, contextualizing them in real situations. Among the activities developed, the modeling and analysis of problems stand out, emphasizing PL problems. Such problems are solved through different methods, such as the Graph, the Simplex, the Big M and the Two Phases. In this path, the use of algorithms and computational tools is emphasized, especially the LINDO software, which stimulates experimentation and strengthens the scientific and technical training of students. The final work of this project considered the classic One-Dimensional Cutting Problem, optimizing the process of cutting steel bars for making footings in civil construction, seeking to reduce preparation time, minimize waste of materials and meet a pre-established demand for items
