Abstract

This paper proposes an integrated methodology combining Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA-SBM) with the Malmquist Index to evaluate energy efficiency and productivity in the industrial sector. The research validates this approach as a tool providing both static and dynamic efficiency measures. A literature review identifies a critical gap in Brazilian research, where only 1.6% of global studies on this topic are conducted in Brazil, focusing almost entirely on the power sector. This work demonstrates practical application through a case study in a plastic industry, identifying benchmark units and decomposing productivity changes into technical efficiency and technological progress. The results highlight the methodology's robustness in guiding efficiency policies and technological modernization investments within real industrial contexts.
