Abstract

Starting from three previous Coordinates (Journalisms and Decentralized Contexts, 2019; Journalism beyond journalism, 2023; and Journalistic appropriations: other ways of doing and readings of other worlds, 2024), this Coordinated Session proposes to reflect on journalism from the tension between news representations and the journalistic role in the production of possible worlds in contemporary times. We seek to problematize journalistic coverage and materials that address the socio-environmental crisis and the neoliberal landscape that has shaped, in recent decades, shaped ways of life, particularly in the West, by examining—through historical and contemporary examples—informational formats that both reinforce developmentalist worldviews and envision journalistic mediations capable of exposing spatiotemporal asymmetries and/or initiating narratives that seek to subvert prevailing hegemonies, symbolically intervening in daily lives that are colonized in various ways.
