Abstract

This coordinated session includes studies that analyze, in a critical and purposeful way, the transformations and tensions of contemporary media digital ecosystems and the socio-technical dynamics that establish the specificities of cyberculture. It is a scenario in which digital technologies impact to structure, shape and influence the contemporary world and journalism in particular, constituting several domains of social life around digitized infrastructures and communications. Among the contemporary aspects of digitalization and its capacity to build technological infrastructures are: platformization in its economic, political, and sociocultural aspects; datafication as a cognitive precondition and its challenges on transparency, control and surveillance of actors and their behaviors; the new economic models focused on connectivity, visibility, monetization, attention economy and engagement; and the expansive mediatization of social interactions, processes and environments. Such scenarios directly impact journalistic activity, which seeks to reconfigure itself in work processes, organizational structures, institutionalities and links with its audiences, depending, for this, to find solutions in its foundations and its practical applications to meet phenomena such as media convergence, participatory culture, digital social networks, algorithms, information integrity, beyond the production and circulation of disinformation
