It is a fact that journalism faces crises (Christofoletti, 2019). At the same time, professional journalists have been demonstrating their dissatisfaction with the current model of mainstream journalism production, often linked to an orientation that distances itself from the public interest (Patrício, 2024). Faced with this reality, journalistic initiatives that value the territory as a basis for production and that defend causes linked to the production of their content are gaining ground. Predominantly named independent journalism (Roque; Patrício, 2025) but also alternative journalism (Peruzzo, 2024), community journalism (Viégas and Mendes (2017)), journalism from the peripheries (Rovida, 2020) or even journalistic arrangements (Fígaro; Nonato, 2018), these initiatives establish other modes of production in journalism, which have repercussions on work routines and professional identity. Bringing to light the elements that shape these initiatives is the objective of this coordinated session of Retij. Among the aspects that can be explored in the works, we highlight...
