In light of the concepts of platformization and the attention economy, this article discusses how generative syntheses delivered by artificial intelligence (AI) on search platforms establish an extractive relationship in which journalism produces and verifies informative content, while the platform synthesizes, distributes and monetizes its value, without necessarily forwarding audience or remuneration proportional to the source. Methodologically, the research uses critical bibliographic analysis to investigate how the synthesized answers reduce clicks and traffic on journalistic portals and how the syntheses produced as answers present a concentration of citations and use of references that are not very relevant or biased. It is concluded that there is a need for transparency, collective licensing, proportional remuneration and strengthening of direct relations with audiences.
