Digital culture has transformed practices, techniques and relationships in contemporary journalism, expanding dependencies and asymmetries with platforms. The adoption of artificial intelligence also raises ethical-political questions. In this context, the article presents preliminary results of a comparative investigation on the use of AI in Brazilian and Portuguese journalism, focusing on the Brazilian context. Works presented at Intercom, SBPJor and Compós, in 2024 and 2025, as well as writing manuals and style books from Brazilian newspapers and fact-checking agencies, are reviewed. Thus, the academic debate and the patterns of use of AI in journalism are mapped. Preliminarily, the need for more transparent and comprehensive policies is highlighted, capable of keeping up with technological transformations without expanding dependencies and asymmetries already present in the journalistic ecosystem.
