Abstract

This article analyzes how Grupo Globo, Folha de S.Paulo, Estadão, and Agência Pública regulate generative artificial intelligence in their editorial guidelines. Based on the Political Economy of Communication, Marxism, and the epistemology of Adelmo Genro Filho, a documentary analysis of the manuals published by the companies between 2023 and 2024 was carried out. It is concluded that the discourse of 'human supervision' operates in commercial conglomerates as a symbolic legitimation that conceals the subsumption of intellectual work and the acceleration of production. While commercial media adheres to algorithmic efficiency and opacity, independent journalism (Agência Pública) establishes discursive ethical counterpoints by prohibiting authorial automation and denouncing the precariousness of big techs. However, this posture faces material limits in the face of the unavoidable dependence on corporate technological infrastructures.
