Abstract

In this talk I describe the transformative synergy between machine learning and systems biology, two fields that are redefining our understanding of life's complexities. I will emphasize the significance of their intricate networks and interactions. Concurrently, I will demystify the realm of machine learning, elucidating its capacity to manage and interpret vast, complex datasets. The crux of our discussion will be the fusion of these domains, where we will examine the application of machine learning algorithms in deciphering biological data at a systems level. This has led to remarkable progress in areas such as genetic networks, protein interactions, and cellular processes, with profound implications for disease diagnosis, drug discovery, and personalized medicine. However, this integration is not devoid of challenges, and we will address issues related to data quality, model interpretability, and the necessity for cross-disciplinary collaboration. I will discuss the future of systems biology in the machine learning era, contemplating ongoing research, emerging trends, and the potential for this powerful tool to revolutionize our comprehension of life at a systems level.
