Resumo

In this work a gel was developed from the mixture of different concentrations of cashew liquid - LCC and chitosan, from 1 to 100 mg of LCC dispersed in chitosan. The mixtures were tested for their degree of toxicity. The gel should be applied in tick combat. Because it is a natural product and therefore causes the least harmful effects on the environment compared to known drugs that are artificially synthesized and have effects on several living species, since ticks are known for resistance. The toxicity of this compound was initially tested on arthropods using the standard Tribolium castaneum. The known populations of arthropods (70 animals) were contacted with the gel at concentrations of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 mg I L. The mortality of the specimens was observed over time for the definition of DL 50. A Figure 1 shows the population decay according to the concentration and the contact time. Among the population reduction curves analyzed it was found that the highest concentration eliminated all individuals in less than one hour, which reveals the potential of the product for more specific tests in the different species of ticks and other arthropods.
