Extracts of Malouetia tamaquarina and its endophytes presented antiprotozoal potential. Novel alkaloids (1 and 2) isolated from the bark of M. tamaquarina showed significant activities against Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense (IC 50 of 20.4 and 2.3 ug/mL) and Plasmodium falciparum (IC 50 of 7.5 and 0.62 ug/mL) respectively. Also, from the endophytic fungus Cosmospora sp. (MT30), two fatty acids and colletorin B were isolated, and the evaluation of their biological activities is still in progress.
