Epidemiological profile of burn patients in Brazil: A systematic review

Introduction: Over the centuries, technology and its advance were an essential part of medicine evolution. Meanwhile, due to the distinct realities in different countries, injuries from burns are still a matter of public health. Those injuries represent a significantly part of all accidental deaths in patients of all ages. In addition to that, during the Covid-19 pandemic there was a significant increase in burn injuries in Brazil, a result of the growth in liquid alcohol sales. Studies have shown that the lack of attention, lined with realizing risk activities and the poor knowledge of the possible danger are factors that can lead to the occurrence of accidents resulting in burns. Objectives: Taking that into consideration, the purpose is to analyze the studies regarding epidemiological profiles in burn patients, in addition to a better understanding of that profile and its conditions. Methods: This Systematic Review uses the Prisma checklist as orientation, as well as Medline database: via Pubmed, Embase and Portal da Biblioteca Virtual da Saúde (BVS). After identifying the literature, all articles were transferred to Rayyan and the selected ones attached to Mendeley. Results: 4371 articles were identified after the selection process and duplicate exclusion. Those articles were analyzed and 57 of them were pre selected. The remaining ones were excluded based on the exclusion criteria. Conclusions: Studies describing epidemiological profiles are fundamental and enable a better understanding of burns, allowing these data to be used for public campaigns and policies.
