Create a topicThe use of new technologies for extracting bioactive compounds from plant matrices has increasingly attracted attention due to the high yield obtained in a short period. Among the technologies mentioned is pressurized fluids (FP), which offer a sustainable and efficient alternative to traditional methods as the applied pressure facilitates the solubilization and extraction of bioactive compounds. There is also ultrasound-assisted extraction (US), which, due to the cavitation phenomenon, significantly improves the efficiency of the process by mechanically breaking the cell walls, facilitating the release of the desired compounds with low energy and solvent consumption. The uvaia (Eugenia pyriformis Cambess) is relevant due to its bioactive components, making its leaf a promising source of natural ingredients for different applications. This study aimed to verify the total phenolic content obtained by extracting the uvaia leaf using pressurized fluid and ultrasound. For the FP technique, a 2³ factorial design was carried out with triplicates at the central point with pressurized water varying Temperature (30, 45, and 60 °C), Pressure (10, 15, and 20 MPa), and Flow (0.5, 0.75, and 1.0mL min-1), for 60 minutes. For extraction with US, a 2² planning was carried out with triplicates at the central point, varying Dilution (1:30, 1:40, and 1:50 w/v) and Power (25, 50, and 75%) in 5 minutes. For FP extraction, a temperature of 60 °C, pressure of 10 MPa, and flow of 1 mL min-1 was determined as the best extraction condition, while for US extraction, the combination of 25% of the power with a dilution of 1: 50 (m/v) was the best condition. Based on the data obtained, it was concluded that US extraction is more effective, presenting a yield 8.68 times higher when compared to FP, thereby demonstrating the superiority of the ultrasound-assisted extraction method in extracting phenolic compounds from uvaia leaves.
