Zika virus infection in different human cell types: a meta-analysis of transcriptome data.

Zika virus (ZIKV) was considered a public health emergency of international concern during its outbreak in the Americas in 2016. Responsible for Congenital Zika Syndrome (CZS) and other neurological disorders, evidence showed that Zika has a wide cell tropism and infecting cells from nervous, reproductive, muscular and immune systems. Despite recent advances, little is known about the cellular pathways involved in the pathogenesis of CZS, and common mechanisms underlying host-pathogen interactions remain to be elucidated.
