Underlying biomolecular mechanisms mediating chlorpyrifos induced cardiovascular impairment in normotensive rats

In previous in vivo and in situ studies, we showed that acute exposure to chlorpyrifos (CPF), a highly used organophosphate (OP) compound, impaired cardiovascular reflexes in normotensive rat. This was associated with central inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) within the brainstem, which leads to cholinergic imbalance. Whether these CPF-induced effects are also leading to oxidative stress and inflammation within the brainstem remains to be explored.
