Resumo

Epilepsy is a brain disorder that affects approximately 65 million people worldwide, with a higher prevalence among children and the elderly. Although drug therapy is the least invasive treatment option, it only provides satisfactory results for about two-thirds of patients. Additionally, these drugs often come with a high incidence of side effects. Therefore, the discovery and utilization of new antiepileptic drugs, such as cannabidiol (CBD), are of utmost importance. CBD, derived from the Cannabis sativa plant, has shown promise in treating epilepsy in a wide range of patients globally. However, most recent studies have focused solely on adult subjects, failing to address the potential challenges that CBD may pose to a developing brain or its chronic effects. Hence, it is crucial to investigate the effects of CBD specifically on developing brains and assess any long-term consequences.
