TEACHING BIOCHEMISTRY AND THE USE OF MULTIPLE REPRESENTATIONS AS AN ACTIVE METHODOLOGY STRATEGY

Biochemistry is the science that studies life at its molecular level, thus seeking to understand the chemistry involved in the biological processes of living organisms, which is a basic component in courses in the health area. The contents involved in this discipline are considered complex by the students. In this context, it is fundamental to implement teaching strategies and methodologies that stimulate and help students` learning. Among the various existing methodological strategies, we can mention the active methodologies, which are used to encourage the student`s protagonism during the activity. Based on this, one of the active teaching tools that has been highlighted are the multiple representations in which the same content can be exposed in different ways, such as descriptive, gestural, corporal, experimental, figurative or mathematical language.
