Study on the effects of a continuing education program on Patient Blood Management (PBM) in the area of Anesthesiology

Transfusion medicine has a long historical process that consolidated in medical practice over the years. However, it has been undergoing a critical evaluation of its possible risks and benefits, as well as its indication. In addition, the Covid-19 pandemic caused a significant shortage of blood stocks. In this scenario, different strategies are being used as therapeutic options for blood transfusions, such as Patient Blood Management (PBM). Although endorsed by WHO and implemented in several countries, PBM is still little known and little used in Brazil and there is a lack of training in transfusion medicine in medical education.
