Resumo

Acinetobacter baumannii (AB) is a Gram-negative bacterium (GN) responsible for nosocomial infections, especially pneumonia, although it affects the entire body and can lead to sepsis. At the pulmonary site, mixed infections have a worse prognosis than monoinfections, where Gram-positive bacteria (GP) stand out, and GN migrate to other organs. Staphylococcus aureus (SA), Gram-positive (GP), potentiates GN infection, a phenomenon associated with α-toxin that impairs innate immunity. Although this ability is known, little is known about the tissues to which GN microorganisms migrate, and, for this reason, the present study tracked the distribution of AB in a model of co-infection with AS, using as a resource the marking of the bacterial cells with a radioactive isotope.
