Resumo

The production of second-generation (2G) ethanol is a promising alternative to the use of fossil fuels. This production has several stages and, among them, the hydrolytic step is the most expensive. Given this, many studies are developed to optimize it. Filamentous fungi, such as Trichoderma reesei, are used for the production of enzymatic cocktails in industry, as they efficiently degrade lignocellulolytic biomass. Thus, the understanding of the molecular mechanisms and nutrient sensing related to the process of deconstruction of lignocellulosic biomass in T. reesei is a relevant target of study. Thus, understanding how receptors with CFEM domain relate to the process of deconstruction of biomass and trigger its signaling cascade is fundamental to find ways to optimize the production of holocellulolytic enzymes. Because amino acid sequences and their three-dimensional structures carry valuable information about their functioning, studying the structure of receptors with CFEM domain is important to understand their signaling mechanism.
