Strategies for Science Communication on Instagram: Café com Ciência

It is a consensus that the product of scientific activity should also be known by the general population, through broad and easy access to this information. However, although internet network has provided wide and rapid accessibility, it also allowed a wide spread of misinformation, mainly due to the inability to understand and effectively discuss science. Thus, scientific literacy is critical to the general public in making informed decisions. In this context, social media has become an increasingly popular tool for science communication in areas such as neuroscience, radiology, and cancer prevention. Biochemistry, Physiology and Pharmacology are fundamental disciplines in understanding the strategies for health promotion and the mechanisms for transition to disease and are subjects of the Graduate Program in Physiological Sciences (PPGCF) at the Federal University of Espirito Santo. Thus, science education and research dissemination about physiology, healthcare, and the results from the PPGCF projects could also be achieved through social media, making it an effective tool to popularize the scientific method and bring the public closer to scientific thinking.
