Microcystin-LR (MC) is considered the most frequent toxins produced by cyanobacteria in eutrophic waters. Despite being formerly described as a neuro and hepatotoxins, previous studies showed that MC can also affect other organs, including hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. However, few studies evaluated acute MC effects in female HPG axis function.
