Resumo

Cerradomys goytaca is an endemic rodent to the coastal restinga region in the north of Rio de Janeiro and south of Espírito Santo – Brazil, classified in the subfamily Sigmondotinae (Wagner 1843), and genus Cerradomys. C. goytaca is an endemic rodent in the coastal region of restinga in northern Rio de Janeiro. It was the first mammal endemic species described in the Restinga de Jurubatiba (2011) and the species is already listed as an animal at risk of extinction, as a result of its habitat being in a small and limited geographic area, in addition to the anthropic action in the region. It has a nocturnal and frugivorous habit, presenting an important role in the consumption and dispersion of seeds plant species present in the restinga area. In rodents, the study and understanding of the Ocular System (SO) and its vision can portray the ecological adaptations of the species. Until now, there is no description of the SO of C. goytaca.
