PRESSURE-SUPPORT COMPARED TO PRESSURE-CONTROLLED VENTILATION IMPROVES CARDIORESPIRATORY FUNCTION AND MITIGATES BRAIN ENDOTHELIAL CELL DAMAGE IN EXPERIMENTAL ACUTE BRAIN INJURY

Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) represents for almost 90% of all strokes worldwide. During the first 24-h after AIS, both pressure controlled ventilation (PCV) or pressure support ventilation (PSV) ventilatory strategies can be used. PSV requires less level of sedation which reflects in stable hemodynamics compared with PCV. Additionally, there is no information about which positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) level would be protective to the lungs and brain in AIS.
