Resumo

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is linked to the degeneration of cholinergic neurons. Currently, cholinesterase inhibitors are the most effective treatments for this condition Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) stands out as a possible treatment due to its anti-inflammatory, protective and antioxidant effects on nerve cells. However, the OEA is rapidly hydrolysed in most mammalian tissues. To optimize the administration of this substance, it is associated with a nanoparticulated (NP) vehicle such as phosphatidylcholine, which provides protection against degradation and can cross the blood-brain barrier. Therefore, it is interesting to investigate the effect of OEA with phosphatidylcholine NP vehicle on hepatic cholinesterase activity, considering that cholinesterases are produced in this organ, from animal models with AD induced by streptozotocin (STZ).
