Resumo

Maternal immune activation (MIA) due to infections during the gestational period is associated with the emergence of pathologies such as Autism Spectrum Disorder. This clinical intercurrence causes fetal immune alterations, in addition to causing premature birth and recurrent episodes of oxygen deprivation due to the immaturity of the neonatal organism. The two-hit, MIA and neonatal anoxia, can impact neural and peripheral development, such as in the small intestine, which has a strong influence on brain modulation. Therefore, understanding the interaction between the two organs in the face of perinatal insults opens up possibilities for the development of therapeutic approaches.
