Resumo

Tributyltin (TBT) is a well-known endocrine disruptor that was largely used in antifouling paints. It has been shown that TBT accumulates in sediment and can affect the ecosystem and human health, even though it has been banned. Direct exposure to TBT can induce obesogenic and diabetogenic effects. However, the effect of maternal exposure to TBT and its effects on offspring are poorly reported in the literature. Furthermore, it is not known whether doses below the safe level (250ng/day) can be harmful to the offspring. Our hypothesis is that early exposure to TBT during development can disrupt the endocrine system and glycemic homeostasis in the offspring, even at low doses.
