Maternal deprivation for 24 h (DEP) is a translational model of loss of parental care and extreme neglect. These conditions are a risk factors for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in humans. DEP in different ages in the neonatal period leads to anxiety- and depressive-like behaviours that are comorbid with PTSD.
