Resumo

Metabolic reprogramming during the acute stress response is an essential adaptive response that enables the body to cope challenges and restore homeostasis; however, excessive stress can cause irreversible adipocyte dysfunction and exacerbate metabolic diseases. Stress has been associated with both marked glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, reduced energy expenditure and impaired thermogenesis. Epidemiologically, stress is associated with the emergence and exarcebation of metabolic disease, such as obesity, fatty liver non-alcoholic, inflammatory bowel disease, and type 2 diabetes. However, the mechanistic basis for aggravated, stress-associates metabolic disorders is not fully understood.
