Resumo

Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD) is a progressive kidney disease caused by diabetes mellitus being a public health problem worldwide. This disease is characterized by hyperglycemia associated with renal injury and proteinuria, a well-known marker of kidney disease. One proposed mechanism for establishment of DKD involves the dysfunction of autophagic flux in tubular epithelial cells. In this context, the diet restriction protocols, including intermittent fasting (IF), promotes activation of autophagy having different beneficial effects on different pathological conditions such as brain and liver diseases. However, the potential effects of IF on the development of proteinuria and DKD onset was not investigated yet.
