INTERFERON-GAMA-PRECONDITIONING OF MESENCHYMAL STROMAL CELLS: CELL VIABILITY, INDOLEAMINE 2,3-DIOXYGENASE 1 AND TUMOR NECROSIS FACTOR-STIMULATED GENE-6 mRNA EXPRESSION

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC)s have been safely administered in clinical trials but so far their effectiveness have been questioned. Thus, it is reasonable to think that preconditioning of MSCs may improve their therapeutic potential. Interferon-gama (IFN-ƴ)-preconditioning may increase their therapeutic potential by increasing the expression of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO)-1 and modulating the gene expression of key elements in innate immune response. However, it is not known the optimal time and dosage of IFN-ƴ-preconditioning, since it may affect MSC viability.
