Resumo

Currently, around 50 million people have epilepsy worldwide. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) can involve processes facilitating the development of the epilepsy or the epileptogenesis. This is characterized by several pathophysiological mechanisms, amongst which neuronal death, synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis. Thus, we hypothesize that changes in ROS disbalance may play a key role in the generation and propagation of epileptiform events on temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE).
