INCREASED IN VITRO REACTIVE ASTROCYTE RESPONSE TO HYPOXIA

Astrocytes are glial cells that are involved in a wide range of brain functions, from structural and metabolic support to synapses and response to brain damage. Astrocytes reactivate going through phenotypic and genotypic changes (mainly hypertrophy and gene expression modifications), proliferation, and dedifferentiation. The astrocyte reactivation process possesses high complexity varying according to the stimulus’ nature and intensity. Previously, our Lab described Notch signaling activation on astrocyte reactivation in vivo and in vitro model of traumatic brain injury. In addition, we studied the influence of several biomaterials on astrocyte stiffness and morphological response.
