IMPACT OF MATERNAL PROTEIN RESTRICTION ON THE MORPHOPHYSIOLOGY AND PROTEOMIC PROFILE OF THE LIVER OF SENILE RATS

Exposure to adverse conditions during pregnancy and/or early childhood may result in irreversible morphofunctional alterations in children, a condition defined as the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD). Maternal Low Protein Diet (LPD) is one of these conditions, and it has been linked to metabolic disorders, an increased prevalence of cardiovascular illness, changes in reproductive parameters, and an increased risk of some forms of cancer in animal models. In this context, it has been demonstrated that the liver, the central organ in the control of metabolism and detoxification, is also affected by exposure to maternal LPD.
