HYPOTHALAMIC CHANGES CAUSED BY ZIKA VIRUS IN ADULT MICE

Zika virus (ZIKV) is a highly neurotropic flavivirus, causing neurological complications after vertical transmission Recent work has shown that the virus affects the functioning of the hypothalamus of animals exposed during development. Previous studies from our group have shown that ZIKV RNA is detected in the hypothalamus of adult mice following infection. Growing pieces of evidence suggest ZIKV is also deleterious to the mature central nervous system.
