Resumo

The search for alternative therapies in ulcer healing has increased in recent years. Among these therapies, the application of electric currents in the recovery of injured tissues has gained attention, particularly in vascular phenomena such as angiogenesis. Angiogenesis refers to the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones. Under electrical stimulation, the caliber of blood vessels is altered, leading to the expression of vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGFs). It has also been reported that microcurrents (mA) stimulate ATP production, which, in conjunction with VEGFs, promotes the growth of vascular endothelium. These processes involve the migration, proliferation, and organization of endothelial cells. The angiogenic potential of these effects contributes to the irrigation of wounds, playing a crucial role in cellular oxygenation and nutrition during the healing process.
