EFFECTS OF SUPPLEMENTATION WITH AÇAI SEED EXTRACT (ASE) ON HEPATIC CHANGES IN EXPERIMENTAL MENOPAUSE

Menopause is characterized by significant hormonal variations, mainly the drop in estrogen levels, which significantly affect a woman`s life. Among the consequences, metabolic imbalance and liver changes, highly related to oxidative stress, are common. Although hormone replacement therapy is a therapeutic alternative, it may be contraindicated for some women and increase the risk of developing breast cancer and thromboembolism. Studies by our research group have shown that the hydroalcoholic extract of the açaí seed (Açaí Seed Extract – ASE), rich in polyphenolic compounds, has antioxidant properties and beneficial metabolic effects in experimental models of obesity and diabetes.
