Effects of cannabigerol in contextual fear memory

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) results from the exposure to terrifying situations that trigger intense fear responses. It has been associated with malfunctioning of fear memory processes, including consolidation, retrieval and extinction. There is an enormous demand for the development of new psychopharmaceuticals that can modulate pathways of memory formation and act on the neural basis of this disorder. Phytocannabinoids, isolated substances from the Cannabis sativa plant, such as cannabidiol, have been extensively explored for the treatment of PTSD. However, other phytocannabinoids have remained underinvestigated. Cannabigerol (CBG) is a non-psychoactive substance found in lower concentrations than other well-known cannabinoids. It is a promiscuous compound that targets multiple receptors, including those involved in fear-related pathways.
