Resumo

The control of differentiation and proliferation in the female prostate are androgen- and estrogen-dependent, just like for the male prostate. Also, during aging, hormone availability impacts prostate homeostasis, favoring disorders in epithelium and stroma. This one can be mediated by endocrine-disrupting chemicals (ED) exposure, which mimics endogenous hormones, competing for their binding sites, leading to different cellular responses. Bisphenol A (BPA), a xenoestrogen ED, alters the morphophysiological characteristics of the prostate. Exposure to this compound during windows of susceptibility is associated with prostatic damage.
