Caloric intake and reproduction are closely linked and essential to life maintenance and survival. Peripheral hormone production, such as leptin and ghrelin, regulates diverse neuronal functions. These hormones are recognized by hypothalamic neuronal populations related to energetic homeostases, like POMC and AgRP neurons. On other hand, there are neurons responsible for sexual development, such as GnRH and Kiss1 neurons, also regulated by sexual hormones. Thus, the organism`s nutritional status substantially impacts its reproductive capacity.
